Remember many moons ago there used to be a product called “Partition Magic”?
Before Symantec got a hold of it and completely destroyed it I used to live by it and swear by it!.
Yes it was a retailed paid software, but one i didn’t mind paying for because it was so easy and
such a great product. Then Symantec got their hands on the company and software.
As all problems with buy outs they completely ruined the software, their last working version
was stopped at version 8 which was only for XP, if you’re a vista user or a windows 7 user then
you was completely out of luck!. Trying to then find a good decent reliable trust worthy alternative
which was either FREEWARE or paid was a real task, nothing really came to the quality and usability
of partition magic. At this point on windows vista/7 we thought people was completely out of luck!.
Then to the rescue come Ease-US with their amazing software Partition Manager (paid commercial)
we thought what the hell we will try the 30 days trial to see if it’s worth purchasing a license to use it.
Being a home user and not a business, I started to wonder if they had a lite version maybe free?
thought I’m just being silly no company is going to offer a free fully functional copy for home use!.
How much could I be wrong!.
Ease-US actually do offer a home version 100% free which is not crippled or restricted in any way!
and to add the extra cherry to the top of the cake!!! they have just released the awesome version 9!
(Again totally 100% free to home users, not crippled and does everything you expect the program to do)
Can this company do any wrong??? seriously I have never ever come across a commercial company
that offers as much as they do completely free to home users!. They totally have my respect and business.

Well let me just say this!, Today I ended my business with acronis company they
can go shove their programs where the sun doesn’t shine!. 10 years I have been
a loyal customer buying upgrades, new versions, so what do they go and do now?
they have just brought out Acronis True Image Home 2012! and get this people
listed as a “FEATURE” (can’t stop laughing at this one) limited Activations!
Acronis has now added Serial + Server Side + hardware locked activations! To their new software
so now you pay your money to them for the software, and in return they make you beg and plead to
be-able to use it and install it!. I’m sorry but if i pay money for software i refuse to beg the company to
let me use it!. So good-bye acronis your stupidity has just cost you my business and hopefully yours.
I mean come on! they know to-do backup is their biggest rival, and they even know to-do backup is
completely free to home users, so why on earth would they go and pull a stunt like this? do they really
expect someone to now want to pay more money for a product with limited activations and usage?
Compared to another piece of software which is just as good if not better which happens to be free!.
On with the Review!
The Website
You have two choices to be-able to obtain the download setup file, you can either go to the main
EaseUS homepage (http://www.easeus.com) and click products, select partition master.
Or you can actually go to their own domain they have for the software which is http://www.partition-tool.com
Personally i feel this is great! for their products instead of you swimming though just 1 site looking for
their software since they do have a vast amount someone actually though about the user here and decided to create separate domains per application type (Very smart and professional).
For this example were going to use http://www.partition-tool.com to grab the setup file.
On entering the website you will notice the site is very clean minimal images and makes you
feel like your not going to get lost in a bunch of application menu screens.
They couldn’t make this any simpler, at the very top there is a “download” bar clicking this will
take you to a page where they list all their other software (commercial and free versions alike)
Right at the top without any messing about is the download button.
Sadly for some strange reason this is a downfall i hope they correct soon!. The download link
is not hosted on their own servers they force you to go to download.com to obtain the file!
This to me is not as professional as i hoped the company was, but i guess every company
will have their faults. This is their major fault (again hope they see this and correct it soon)
Once you jump though hoops over at download.com and manage to download the file.
(Download.com now makes you sign-up for an account! before you can download the file).
The Installer (Setup File)
The full setup size of this application is a very tiny 11.1mb which took less than 2 seconds to
download on a 50mbit connection (virgin media) so again such great application but so small
you would wonder how they have managed to program this software to fit inside 11mb.
An empty multimedia executable stub standard is 2.85mb and that’s just the launcher size!
so somehow they managed to get this application to about 6MB which is highly impressive.
Running the installer is very smooth as you would expect from ease-us products.
at first you will hit a license screen, which you find in every software program.
Then you hit this screen! i wouldn’t exactly call it a nag screen or ad-ware because
it doesn’t actually install anything on your computer so from what we can see its just
an advert with the option of downloading their fully professional partition software (30 day trial)
As you can see it’s not exactly a nag screen but it is there in the installer so don’t think
by clicking next it’s going to install this 30 day trial over the top of the free version it wont.
The rest of the installer is just copying files over to the PC as any installer does, and
making a few registry changes again nothing what so ever to worry about.
On the last screen there is a box for feedback to ease-us asking for your personal details
you have no obligation to fill this out and submit it, if you choose not to don’t fill it in!
The choice is up-to you the user. Personally i skipped it don’t like software nagging me.
The Program GUI (Interface)
Below is a screen shot of the main application when you first run it!
As you can see from the screen shot this is professional software not just some
guy playing around learning how to program (like a lot of our other software we reviewed)
As you know by now i love my GUI’s for me if the interface is win98 theme with big grey boxes
and buttons with no gradients or anything flashy or professional looking i cannot stand to use it.
Partition Master is nothing like you would expect it to look considering it’s a free software!
Not that you can see it too clearly in the screen shot (click the image for the full size picture)
On the left hand side menu the authors of this software really know what a user needs when it comes
to managing their hard-drive! They have listed in plain sight (not hiding behind any complex menu’s)
all the tools you might need! I have got to say personally I cannot stand authors of software who purposely
hide features and items inside menu’s of menu’s of sub-menu’s this application is clearly not the case.
The author has clearly understood people need quick and straight forward access to certain features!
