Soft-0 Free Password Manager
This is the only Database / Password manager in the whole of the internet which includes
a feature that even the commercially available high-priced password managers don’t seem to have.
and that is CUSTOM FIELDS!!! yes this manager allows you to select from a variety of custom fields
from drop down boxes, to radio buttons, to check boxes, to text input strings, to multi column strings
to extra password input fields…. you name it… this manager has the LOT! and it is totally FREE too.
I’m amazed totally amazed i have tried and tested 24 commercial/free/open source password apps
and not a single other password manager gives the user the option to create his own custom fields!
even the most expensive password manager on the market we found is around $179 dollars
And even this highly priced piece of software doesn’t have options in it to create custom fields.
it totally baffles me how authors of this kind of software some how leave out one of the most
necessary core features for this kind of application. i mean after all the software’s main purpose is
for a user to enter details into fields to save them and store them from safe keeping so not giving
the user any way to create his own custom fields is simply crazy! considering the nature of the app.
Now you can see why i love this application? and why it not only gets a 5 Star Award but an
Amazing award badge for their company’s website. this truly is 5 star software at its best.
Today we are going to be reviewing one of the best password managers available! the reason I’ve
picked this application to start with is because i just love this program i have been using it for a year now
mark my words when you finish reading this review you will pop on over to their website to read more
about other great software they are offering (not freeware but very good none the less)
Since this application is completely free to use without any limitations i felt it was worthy of a review.
You will also find (can’t remember where now) there is a completely identical application to this
only their application even though it completely the same in every single way shape and form
they are trying to charge 40-50 dollars or more for it!!! the free version they offer is crippled too
only lets you input up to 10-12 records then they expect you to buy it!! complete rip off….
I contacted soft-0 about this in the past they explained they wasn’t happy with the company
they worked for so they decided to start-up their own venture taking with them the programmers
who now are the ones who program this free password manager! and even better yet they
have made it completely FREE!!! to use without pesky limitations of any kind.
The Download from the web site is very simple and can be done with ease just like should be.
you visit the web site click free password manager and it then instantly downloads the “setup.exe”
when we run the installer we can clearly see there is no pesky ad ware or tool bars it’s just a
straight double-click follow on-screen instructions until the setup has finished installing.
A little side note near to the very last part of the installation it will ask you not only where you’d
like the actual program to be installed but now it will ask you for a location to store the database.
We feel this is a great idea because the database normally with many other password managers
stores the database in the same install directory, or even worse doesn’t even give you an option.
Once the setup file has finished installing the program you are presented with the following screen.
Since it’s the first time using the software you need to create your own database
so click “Database” very first menu item on the top of the application now click “Create New”
Here it will ask you to create a database (give it a name) <– this is going to be the name of the database.
then it will ask you to set a password, a description, and then where you want the database to be saved
Now when your database has been created you will get the following screen.
I’m not going to be doing a tutorial of how to work this database just giving you a little taster.
but what i will focus on is the special custom fields since it seems no other password app
on the planet actually has this feature so since custom Fields is what makes this app stand
out from all the rest it’s time to really promote this fact.
As you can see from the screenshot above everything navigation wise in this app is
completely straight forward (there is nothing what so ever to miss lead you)
Down the left hand side of the menu you can see different category’s these are just
pre-filled out fields with different style fields to match the category type again because
the author made this application so customizable you can remove/delete all the category’s
and create your very own custom-built one with as many special fields as you want.
Again navigating around your own built fields is just as easy if not easier than using the
pre-configured ones… another feature is if you feel you no longer want a custom field
or you want to re-arrange the custom field’s orders then this app lets you do just that.
Simple as dragging and dropping the fields under each other/on top of each other.
As you can see from the screenshot above making new custom fields is really as simple
as clicking Add.. then selecting the different types of fields you want to use in your database.
or if you prefer you can go a step further see a field type you don’t really like that is pre-configured
then why delete it? just click the edit button which allows you to edit the field type and style.
This software has it all and remember it’s completely free to use! unlike its brother company’s.
so now we have shown you and told you about the fields part of this software lets move on to
once you have created your database added your fields filled out the data and now you want
to save the database (for backup/restore purposes)
The screenshot below again shows just how easy it is to do just that!
from the main menu when the application opens click Backup Database.
The backup format is *.pmb select where you want to save this file and that’s it!
once you click save your .pmb file is ready backed up! its just that simple to do.
Restoring the backup is just as simple as backing it up you just again click restore database
select the location where the backed up .pmb file is… click open and once again your done!
If this wasn’t simple enough the authors of this great software have also give you an option
to transfer a database & the portable password manager to a removable device.
All this is done with a GUI wizard to start this process off click on the tools tab
then just click install to removable device wizard then just follow on-screen instructions.
(Everyone knows how to use password managers from the very simple ones to advanced ones)
so since this software is quite self-explanatory we won’t need to go into any more details.
We never come across an application where we have not had some suggestions on features
to make it much more user-friendly normally we go into depth on the features we would like to see added
but this application has us dumb founded we cannot think of any features or suggestions that this app
is missing. it truly is an amazing piece of software without a doubt.

it beats any paid commercial software on the planet hands down. what really makes this app great
has to be the custom Fields option.. this sold it for me when i first seen this Application
= Online
= Off Line
